Ages Ago - A Song From "84"
It all seems
A sweet dream
From ages ago;
I turn through the pages
And read those old poems
And I read how I loved you,
I'm sure I still do
So tell me what ever became of us two?
As I stare out my window
With blank in my eyes
And curse every unshared sunrise.
All these old love-songs remind me of us
Yet somehow I find them here buried in dust.
And I hate my career
And I hate my whole life
I should have married you,
Made you my wife
But Its to late for daydreams
There's too much to mend
But God how I miss my best friend.
Our records are broken
Some pieces are lost;
I stare at the ocean and measure the cost
And I think I may owe you a lifetime
Or three.
So Please won't you come back
And take mine from me
Cause you know that I'd give it
To hold you once more
And make love as it was before.
I still have that portrait
Of you on my wall.
Do you have a keepsake to help you recall
All the wonders we shared
Back when we were best friends?
Or does that just bring back
That old hurt again?
If it has I am sorry
Your pain I regret
But me, I can never forget.
