Egyptian Mummy "81"
She wakes in the morning
After rolling and turning
All night long
And the damp, sheets cling to her skin
Like some Egyptian mummy
And she turns and whispers, "honey?"
Then turns back again,
And runs her fingers through her hair,
Realizing there's nobody there
And it's funny
'Cause there never really has been.
But its dawn
And time to rise!
She teeters to the mirror,
Yawning as she rubs her eyes
And notices her hair is turning gray,
And there is a line on her face.
That wasn't there yesterday.
The obvious has become even clearer
As she touches her hand to the mirror,
Hoping to wipe away what she sees
But it's there to stay
And she watches herself weep
And wonders.
How long have I been lying here?
How long have I been asleep?
